    Why is a hamburger called 'ham' if it is made of beeF?

    Anyone have any thoughts on this?

    so ppl don't get confused i know that when you order a hamburger they put mustard while beef burger they put no sauce

    This is a bit more confusing than the hotdog predicament.

    But it should be beefburger... unless you put ham on your burger I guess

    Actually a burger that's not specified what is inside it is a burger. one with fish is a fishburger, one with beef is beefburger
    And so on and so forth

    The common belief is that the American hamburger borrowed its name from a dish called "Hamburg Style Beef" or "Hamburg Steak" which arrived in the United States from the German *************** in the 19th century. The dish was nothing more than chopped meat eaten raw.
